The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Bataan, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Bataan and the DILG Regional Office, has launched a five-day hands-on training on the Barangay Information Management System (BIMS) from February 10 to 14, 2025, at the Bataan Tourism Pavilion in Balanga City. The training gathers barangay secretaries and assistant staff from all 237 barangays across the province to enhance their digital governance capabilities.
DILG Central Luzon Regional Director (RD) Anthony Nuyda expressed his appreciation to the Provincial Government of Bataan, under the leadership of Governor Jose Enrique "Joet" Garcia III, for its strong support in implementing BIMS. He commended Bataan for being the first province in Central Luzon—and in the entire country—to roll out the system, marking a significant step toward digital transformation in local governance.
Governor Garcia, in turn, extended his gratitude to RD Nuyda and the DILG training team for equipping barangay officials with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively utilize the system. He emphasized that BIMS will be instrumental in establishing a comprehensive barangay database, integrating residents’ profiles and other critical information collected by various national government agencies.
Developed by DILG, BIMS is offered free of charge to all barangays nationwide as part of the Local Government Unit Support System (LGUSS) program. The initiative includes two key subsystems: BIMS for barangays and the Cities and Municipalities Information System (CMIMS) for local government units. These digital solutions aim to streamline day-to-day operations, enhance public service delivery, and improve governance efficiency.
The BIMS rollout aligns with the Marcos administration’s commitment to fully embrace digitalization and online payment systems, reinforcing efforts to improve public services, facilitate ease of doing business, and combat graft and corruption.
With this initiative, Bataan sets the benchmark for other provinces, demonstrating the power of technology-driven governance in fostering transparency, efficiency, and accountability at the barangay level.
