SUBIC BAY FREEPORT ZONE – Consistent with the Department's mandate to assist local government units (LGUs) in Disaster Preparedness, the Department of the Interior and Local Government Regional Office 3 conducted the second part of the workshop on Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) on January 11-13, 2017 for selected LGUs from the provinces of Nueva Ecija and Tarlac.
The activity is a follow-through on the previously held orientation on CDRA last December 2016. It aimed to provide assistance to LGUs in integrating Disaster Risk Reduction – Climate Change Adaptation (DRR-CCA) in the preparation of their Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP).
For three days, the LGUs were subjected to thorough discussions and series of workshops on the first three (3) steps of CDRA namely: collect and organize climate change and hazard information, scope the potential impacts of climate change and hazard, and develop the exposure database.
The attendees from the selected LGUs are composed of the Local Agriculturist, Local Planning Development Coordinator (LPDC), Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer (LDRRMO), Local Government Operations Officer (LGOO), Local Environment and Natural Resources Officer (LENRO), Local Health Officer (LHO), Local Social and Welfare Development Officer (LSWDO), and Geographic Information System (GIS) experts.
After this, the participants will be called for another round of workshop for the continuation of the last three steps of CDRA with the same functionaries except for the LSWDO who will be replaced by a Sanggunian Member.
The activity which is in collaboration with DOST-PAGASA and DENR-MGB is the first of the three (3) batches of workshops slated for CDRA.
