In order to increase awareness and preparation for "The Big One", a magnitude 7.2 earthquake that is expected to hit and paralyze Metro Manila anytime, representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG R3) joined the various government agencies and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill at the Air Force City, Clark Airbase, Pampanga on April 21 led by the National Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Council (NDRRMC).
According to NDRRMC Chairperson and Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin, the exercise aims to develop a culture of disaster resiliency among the people which is critical in the face of a disaster.
"Our security and safety lie in our very own hands as we join together in building a safer, adaptive and resilient community", Sec. Gazmin said.
He also explained that the reason why Clark Airbase was chosen as the venue of the drill was because it will be the Alternate Command and Control Center should an earthquake hit the National Capital Region.
The drill started at exactly 9:00 in the morning right after the pressing of the ceremonial button of key officials from various government agencies.
