Maimpis, City of San Fernando, Pampanga – The DILG Region III collaborated with 34 National Government Agencies, the City Government of San Fernando, and the Provincial Government of Pampanga to conduct a successful clean-up activity within the Diosdado Macapagal Government Complex on May 22, 2015.
To commence the event, a short program was conducted at the complex’s central park wherein DILG Regional Director Florida M. Dijan conveyed the legal bases of the activity – one of which is the Supreme Court decision mandating the Manila Bay Clean-up, Rehabilitation and Preservation Project. Further, she enjoined the partaking agencies to serve as role models in preserving the environment. The endeavor is not only about legal bases but also moral obligations and civic responsibilities, she added.
The activity was also in line with the advocacy of the Central Luzon Association of Regional Offices (CLARO) which made the participation of the different NGAs possible.
After the program, the participants proceeded to clean their respective and designated areas. With both the Environment and Natural Resources Offices (ENRO) of the Pampanga Provincial Government and the City of San Fernando lending a set of trucks to collect garbage, approximately 30 tons of unsegregated waste has been amassed by 474 participating employees.
Aside from these, the PG Pampanga and CSF-ENROs showed their full support and commitment to the activity by providing most of the cleaning materials used.
Following Director Dijan’s promise, the DILG is set to facilitate similar collaborative clean-up activities in the future. According to her, “Lahat tayo ay dapat kumilos, lahat tayo ay kasama, walang iwanan.”
