Brgy. Tawiran, Obando, Bulacan – around 1,500 volunteers and employees from different National Government Agencies within Region III, Local Government Units within Bulacan, business sectors, academe and non-government organizations gathered to conduct the Kick-Off Ceremony of the Manila Bay Clean-up, Rehabilitation and Preservation Project Launching last January 27, 2019.
This activity signified the "start" of a battle for Manila Bay, aiming to bring back its former glory, making its water fit for swimming and skin diving and reducing the current fecal coliform level 330 million most probable number (MPN) per milliliter to acceptable 100 MPN/ 100ml.
Headed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region III, in coordination with the Municipal Government of Obando, Bulacan, the program started with a "Unity Walk" showing everyone that there is unity in diversity. This was followed by the singing of the National Anthem, prayers led by different Religious Sectors representatives, and a welcome message from Mr. Bernard Villasor, Municipal Administrator of Obando.
Also delivered during the program were key messages from the beloved Father of the Province of Bulacan, Hon. Gov. Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, who encouraged not only the local officials but all citizens of the Province of Bulacan should help clean and rehabilitate the Manila Bay through proper disposal of wastes within the area, from DOT Regional Director Carolina Uy, DILG Undersecretary for Local Government Marivel Sacendoncillo, PNP Regional Director PCSupt Joel Napoleon Coronel, who pledged to provide support in this endeavor as well as PNP-Bulacan PD PSSupt Chito Bersaluna and 48th IB Philippine Army Commanding Officer Lt. Col. Arnel Cabugon.
Dubbed as the "Battle for Manila Bay", all participants pledged their commitment to conduct clean-up activities on a regular basis, preserve and rehabilitate the bay, until such time people are able to swim in the waters of the Manila Bay.
